Throw Back Thursday - Texas Capitol, 1993

Today's Throw Back Thursday selection is one of my favorite childhood pieces. It makes me smile so much that I have framed it and have it up in my house. This marker drawing defies physics. It truly represents by childhood perspective, looking at the world through rose colored glasses. There was no initial sketch for this magnificent piece, I just went with the flow back then, so innocent, so free.

But in all seriousness, I had a wonderful childhood, and an especially unique elementary school experience at Gullett Elementary in Austin. This was a drawing completed in the second grade, over 20 years ago. Even though it was certainly not my intention at the time, I like that I wasn't afraid of going off the page with the lower section of the building. I'm pretty sure I started at the top and worked down, getting more and more crooked, making this somewhat inevitable, but I didn't squish the left side when the paper's edge came close, which is one of the most common issues I see with young beginners. The clouds don't show the same promise, but we'll excuse them for now.
