This week I began a trial month of private art lessons with a sweet and talented young lady. With everything I have going on, and so many unknowns in the near future, we thought we'd just see how it went after 4 weeks. She just started the fourth grade and is really excited about art! I taught her about perspective this week, and it was really neat to see her start to get it. Perspective and color theory were two of the first keys that unlocked the exciting and wonderful world of art to me, and I want to be a part of creating those "aha" moments for others.
I painted this still life in a class when I was the same age as this young girl that I am teaching, so I chose it for this week's throw back thursday piece. I was learning about color mixing, complementary colors and painting from life. Can you tell? The yellows with the blue violets, the reds and greens. I love how colorful and fun this piece is. I am especially proud of the watermelon. The shadow cast onto the watermelon may have been one of the first times I actually attempted to use a complementary color to make a shadow.
That's all for now. I have some fun news to tell soon, so be looking out for that.
Happy Thursday!
